Maurits Cornelis Escher


born June 17, 1898 in Leeuwarden, the capital of the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands.
He spent his youth first in Arnhem and then to Haarlem, where the 1919 to 1922 he studied architecture at first, then art graphics Jessurum Samuel de Mesquita.
In 1923, after completing his studies, he moved to Rome where he remained until 1935. In recent years, every spring on long trips in remote regions and often little known in Italy, taking notes and doing sketches that later, during the winter, use as a basis for the implementation of the definitive works.
In 1935 he moved to Châteux d'Oex, Switzerland, in 1937 in Ukkel, near Brussels in 1941 in Baarn, the Netherlands, where he remained until 1970, when he moved to Laren. Here he died in 1972 after a long illness.
